• Viewpoint Lake covers about 33 acres with 81 homes around it. It also served as a reservoir for a golf course.
• Dawn Lake is slightly larger, with 143 homes. It was set up as a private lake owned by the residents of the surrounding homes, with water supplied from a Recreation Centers of Sun City well.

What that means for water damage

• Know who's responsible. Most ceiling leaks come from the house itself: the roof, plumbing or AC. If you think water is coming from a shared feature such as a lake wall, dock or shared irrigation, contact your lake association or HOA as well as your insurer.
• Doors and patios facing the water. Wind-driven monsoon rain can get in around sliding doors and windows. Check under rugs and along baseboards after a big storm.
